DOMESTIC VIOLENCE / RESTRAINING ORDERS /TRO

If you have been arrested for domestic violence or simply accused of domestic violence the courts may issue a temporary restraining order against you. Often temporary restraining orders are issued without the respondant's knowledge. Once the temporary restraining order has been put in place the court will ususlly schedule a hearing within a couple of weeks in order to determine whether there is a need to extend the duration of the temporary restraining order. Unless the hearing is contested the respondant will have the restraining order against them for a period of one year.

Having a temporary restraining order in place against you can prevent you from acquiring certain jobs, advancing at your current job, or even cause you to lose your current job. If you receive notice of a restraining order against you do not hesitate to contact an attorney for assistance. The effects are far reaching and often irreversible. Do not become a victim of circumstance by allowing a restraining order to be placed against you uncontested.
